My Berlin based friends Bernhard Wöstheinrich and Rainer Frey host a monthly concert series called ‚Polyphony at the BAIZ‘ in a Prenzlauer Berg bar called BAIZ. The famous place feels like a remnant of the anarchist/communist alternative scene that was strong in the Berlin of the 1970s/1980s – sadly there aren’t many places like this left.
For each concert, Bernhard and Rainer invite a guest musician and create an evening of improvised music with him/her. They invited me for episode 009 on October 15, 2024.
I arrived with guitar and my new elaborated pedalboard full of secret weapons – several of which worked great at home but turned out not to work on stage. Oh well, disappointment!
But then there were enough sounds left in my arsenal and we had a fun evening anyway. There were more people in the audience than I had expected, and afterwards, the hat with the tips was full, so apparently our sonic assault was liked by many.
