I was 18 or 19 when we started to make music together and called ourselves Parsec. This first incarnation of Parsec was a truly innocent band. We rarely tried to play 'real' music, and we never even thought about doing gigs. It was all about the sheer fun of being together as friends, and playing together without any expectations or ambitions.

We experimented with new musical elements such as tape loops, free jazz, experimental poetry, medieval or self-built instruments; we loved endless jams on top of themes that we invented, or borrowed from Soft Machine, Volker Kriegel, Terje Rypdal, folk and Krautrock. And we developed silly rituals around the music and music making that nobody outside of the group had a chance to understand. We had a great time together and each of us keeps fond memories of it.

My socialisation as a musician started with Parsec.
