Kennich (= German exclamation for "I know that") was a cover band. We covered pop- and rock music by Sting, Peter Gabriel, Simply Red, Dire Straits, and others. Sometimes we kept close to the originals, sometimes we found our own arrangements, and there was always some space for improvisation. Martina was a great front singer. Heiner was a great singer too and a really good guitarist (much better than myself for this kind of music). All of us contributed something unique. Our gigs were big fun and the audience loved us but we eventually stopped gigging because for a group of eight or even nine, the logistics and cost of touring was simply too much.
Kennich was an important band for me, not just because of the fun we had but also because I got to play on stage more. I also had to find rearrangements for my guitar parts in all the pieces we played - several years ago I had finally switched to Robert Fripp's New Standard Tuning and none of the regular guitar chords worked on my guitar any longer. This helped me a lot to really come to grips with this tuning.
