liked your underwater recordings. i can't afford a hydrophone, so i'm trying to mimic underwater sounds with my guitar (prepared or with a delay pedal) or voice. e.g. i have a track called 'below the ice' where i do this a lot. every year we have an underwater sounds based improvisation session over several hours in london to celebrate world oceans day, were anybody can join and experiment with this kind of stuff. anyway, keep up the underwater recording! and, it was interesting to hear that fish like bananas!?

Hi Michael and all ! Good news for those wishing to have HOP alive and running under the Win XP environment.
First: in my own PC, HOP runs satisfactorily in the native pseudo-DOS window, but only if one does not use the higher resolution (1024x768). Otherwise, it crashes. Of course it may be just a matter of luck, since it depends on the overall hardware.
Second: HOP runs VERY well (even at hi-res) in a DOS emulator like DOSBOX 0.65 (freeware, can be downloaded from http://dosbox.sourceforge.net). This offers the added advantage of enabling easy screen capture, AVI-video capture, and even audio-WAV capture. I only have problems in switching to fullscreen (the display is displaced sideways, leaving much stuff offscreen) but this is not really necessary: the DOSBOX window can be made almost as large as the whole screen !
Hope this helps. Enjoy ! Contact me at morassiNOSPAM (at) NOSPAMlibero.it (erase NOSPAM) if you have problems.

I have just got a W98SE machine brought back to life, just so I can run HOP again. I love that program so much!! I use Apophysis a lot but HOP is so much more fun!
I DO wish you would get someone to rewrite it for Windows - so that it can be run on XP machines. There are many people interested in fractals now and I am sure it would be popular.
I think when I am 90 I will still be trying to make you do this! lol

My name is Ilmir. I live in one of small cities in Russia. I like very much your wonderful music. For the first time I have heard your plays some years ago in national radio. In that time with the large interest loved to listen to a night radio program about electronic music. Since then your creativity represents for me the large interest. It would be desirable to find out about your creativity and about your music more. All these years I live with dream to have your albums but I do not know how. For me the large problem to order your music abroad! But I believe that early or late my dream will be carried out. Thank you for your beautiful music.
Best wishes Ilmir from Russia.

You are such an amazing artist. Your photo page website is the most interesting piece of visual artistry that I've seen on the web in a good long while. Not only is the photography beautiful, but the way you sequenced the slide show is just exquisite.
I was literally enraptured by the experience and I am sending it out to all the people I know who appreciate design and photography.
A zen master painter would be very, very impressed with you (although they probably wouldn't show it because that would be rather attached, wouldn't it..................<giggle>)
Seriously, I just want to compliment you on the sum total of your artistry. In a much better world, you would never have to work another day in your life............just create the beauty that you create as a musician, a photographer and a webdesigner.

Ooooh, very nice. Smooth. Lovely blend of sounds here. Also very much entertained by the MY2K clips. One I especially like is when you struck the metal railing in an office building! I am a sound and vibration engineer, and also a musician. This sound contains soooooo much information! A very interesting beating effect between a couple of close frequencies. I visit Germany alot for my job. Hope to see/hear more of your work. I yearn to leave the world of engineering and enter that of art, but my family relies on the paycheck! Best wishes, hope 2 hear back from you.

Anyway, I like it very, very much (also into Eno and Arovane and looking for others) and would like to own it. Is "The Promise" available through you or for sale anywhere? I didn't see it on Amazon or anything...
I went to your site and saw the other stuff on offer but would like to start with something I've heard.

I've found your site through Loopers Delight (hey, put a breakbeat under that and we're rapping). Especially 'April' is very moving, really beautiful. You really use your looper as a creative device, which often isn't the case with a lot of loopers, often including myself . I've only got a DL4, yet with little effort, one's got a nice loop, just bytiptoeing thru scales. Your stuff really inspired me though, to reach higher . Thank you very much.

A great site! I've added you now to the modulator experimental music webring, sorry about the delay and all, but I'm really glad I took alook as I'm very proud to add you! Thanks for the great sounds, the funky spoon I like from Feb and the intro to the Allaire course which made me laugh. I found your site through Yahoo. Great stuff. I thought the "Stegosaurus..." piece was the best. Your pieces are constructed very well and don't have that real monotonous feel that a lot of musicians have when they use a lot of loops. Great work. I am a composer myself but I use mostly bass guitars (microtonal and 5 string)

Always loved the swells and colors.....starting doing it myself in the early 70's....but alas in Texas, nobody wanted to hear soundscapes unless you happen to be chemically devotional! Anyway, curious if you used synths and if so which ones. I achieved alot of cool sounds using an old analog delay with a volume pedal years ago. Think of revisiting that again after listening to your absolutely inspiring and spiritual music. Fantastic job. Thanks, Gene Temple

I'm trying to prove that 3D(+) quadratic dynamic systems (like quaternions) will never yield 3D mandelbrot/juliaset- like structures, since you can't find basins of attractions. Meaning, there is no complete environment around an attractor.

Very nice. I like this sort of thing but it's very hard to find and Robert F. doesn't quite do the same thing. Are you using the 2 tape decks or digital wizardry? I believe that analog can allow sonic complexity fairly effortlessly. I keep thinking about the E-bow, ya know? Anyway, keep on doing and know many of us enjoy it, too! I also have appreciated your intelligent comments on the ambient (or was it Powerspot?) (or both?) mailing list.

Some great ambient ventures in the style of Eno/Fripp but very unique. Very impressive. You are most certainly on the right track. Your work reminded me also of some work I did 20 years ago in an UNC-Chapel Hill class with Roger Hannay where we basically had a closet with a Moog and Arp synthesizer and a couple four-track reel-to-reels. It was a blast! Keep up the good work! In an age when much music is quite stagnant it is great to see some serious exploration taking place. Good luck in your adventure!

anhören hat auf meinem altertumlichen Mac leider nicht geklappt, jedenfalls hiermit herzliche Gruße, vielleicht trifft man sich mal. Ich bin auch Gitarrist und auf meiner Solo-CD 'Can I Go Like This?' bei JazzHausMusik in Köln (s. Stadtgarten) sind auch einige Loop-Sachen drauf. Sonstige Infos auf der Looper's Delight Page (Loopers of the World) Ciao, Andreas
