Broken Cup   (1990)

category:   solo electric guitar + livelooping

"Music is the cup that holds the wine of silence.
Sound is that cup, but empty.
Noise is that cup, broken."
(Robert Fripp)

In the late eighties / early nineties, I continued experimenting with the short loops that my Arion DDS-4 could produce. Four of these loop improvisations were included on the "Sonic Asteroids II" cassette. As often, I loved to create a raw and unrefined sound, and I occasionally added sound samples for even more rawness. I used an EBow often, and the effect section consisted of a Yamaha Rex-50.

None of this stuff was ever meant to be published. Some people liked it though.

Here is a loop from 1995 which is somewhat similar to the Broken Cup series. At this time, I had already replaced the low-fi Arion delay by a Paradis Loop Delay which gave me almost unlimited loop time. This recording is unusual because it features a Schaller "Yoy-Yoy" Wah-Wah pedal which gives it a very distinct sound.
